New Look

Still unbeatable on price but let down by a tatty storefit

Product 7½

This season New Look is about backing key styles but offering variations on a theme. There are more pointed stiletto courts in various colours - a newer look - than anywhere else and peep-toe ankle boots are also backed strongly with options like a zip-trimmed grey style and a pewter metallic version. There is also a patent cage shoe and a purple mock croc-covered platform. Some over-the-knee styles with tassel details are also served up, as well as biker boots.

Experience 6

New Look makes the most of its footwear by merchandising it throughout the store - it plays a key role in both window displays and on in-store trend tables. The offer is given a large space that spans the entire width of the back of the store but some fittings look worn and tatty. This is a self-service department but there are a few staff wandering the shopfloor ready to replenish the quicker sellers.

Value 9

Still the best value for money on the high street. New Look offers a black and gold cut-out peep-toe shoe for £30 and a version of Ugg’s biker style at just £25. An over-the-knee flat boot is a very respectable £50 but other more expensive options are not quite up to the styling of the more expensive specialists. Good quality leather biker boots at £80 is a high price point for New Look and far too close to rivals with more kudos. A black suede ankle boot with gold frogging is great though at £25.
