Find out what’s selling now in the world of premium fashion (all interviews conducted prior to Black Friday)

Hollie Creane, manager of Agatha in Lincoln

“Now that the weather has changed and it’s almost winter, our customers are becoming more interested in warm knitwear as well as party outfits. Ted Baker bodycon mini dresses (£160) are proving popular right now. We’re also seeing demand for statement pieces that add some colour to the classic autumn 15 palette, especially the Paul Smith colourful and patterned coats (£400).”

Marc Cain

Tiffany Ross, manager at Cavells in Oakham, Rutland

“Right now it’s all about Christmas, with clients preparing for the festivities by buying dresses full of colour and texture. Dresses from Michael Kors (£135 to £190) and Marc Cain (£175 to £255) are the most desired pieces. Marc Cain blazers (£299) and Luisa Cerano trousers (£180 to £200) have also been selling very well.”

Mala Alisha

Susy Smith, manager of Courtyard in Angel Gate in Guildford, Surrey

“Luxurious textures in classic beige and grey shades are our customers’ favourites. They love the bright colours and quality materials this season, especially the Mala Alisha Lisy wrap (£225) and Juno poncho (£195). We’ve also seen demand for 360 Cashmere big sweaters (£300). For autumn 15 we introduced leather jackets from Gushlow & Cole (£800 to £900).”

Paula Jauncey, manager at Emporio in Worcester

“Our current bestsellers are dresses, especially quality pieces that represent the perfect mix of classic and modern style. It’s all about striking that balance and selling clothes they can wear on several occasions, not just Christmas Eve. The Paul Smith floral bodycon jersey dress (£300) and Diane Von Furstenberg red lace dress with black cuffs (£300) are definite favourites.”

Peter Burstein, owner of Feathers in Knightsbridge, London

“For autumn 15 we introduced Markus Lupfer knitwear, which is proving very popular, especially the vintage Mickey Mouse sweater (£295). Customers are also loving Rick Owens leather jackets (£1,900) and No 21 dresses (£700). Before Christmas we’re going to start offering discounts online, although we haven’t decided yet what discounts we’re going to offer for Black Friday.”

Fiona Manser, manager at Foxy Lady in Southampton

Hugo Boss jackets (£370) are our bestsellers, as customers love the great comfort and fit. With Christmas parties approaching, Versace (£250) and James Lakeland (£200) dresses are in demand. On Black Friday we’re planning to offer 20% off all merchandise in our store. We decided to do Black Friday because everyone else is and we want to be involved.”

Sue Ashworth, buyer at Lynx Womenswear in Harrogate

“Cashmere knitwear and bright colour coats are bestsellers right now. Woolrich coats (£750), contemporary cashmere by Cash CA Knitwear (£250 to £270) and MiH Jeans (£185 to £250) are the most popular styles in store at the moment. For autumn 15 we added the entire collection from Italian brand Tela and Scandi label Samsøe & Samsøe. For Black Friday we’re planning to offer discounts of 20% off everything.”

Duncan McKenzie, director at Aphrodite in Sunderland

“The most popular styles at the moment are down jackets in very bright colours like red or green from Moncler (£750), Canada Goose (£600) and Stone Island (£550). For autumn 15 we’ve added soft-style jackets from Barena (£349) and the Moc Toe boot by Red Wing (£239).”

Barbour Duke wax jacket

Adam Smith, manager of Badger in Brighton

Barbour is our bestseller, in particular the classic Duke jacket (£200) in black, beige and navy. Fred Perry knitwear (£80) is a must-have at this time of year. The Farah brewer shirt (£55) is also selling well. All these brands appeal to a large age range of customers from 18 to 60 years old. We won’t participate in Black Friday as we’re happy with our sales so far this season.”

Stone Island

Stone Island

Carl Bradley, manager at Bradley Knipe in Doncaster

“The colder weather is coming and we’ve found that our customers are preferring classic sweatshirts from Boss Green (£250) and Stone Island (£175). Paul & Shark knitwear (£180) offers a good range of textures. We will opt to go on Sale in January, in store and online, instead of participating in Black Friday. We plan to start on Boxing Day with offers of 25% off in the first week, depending on what’s left after Christmas. We’re old-fashioned and don’t believe in giving discounts before Christmas.”

Vivienne westwood knitwear

Vivienne Westwood

Alfie Hope, manager of Capital Collection in Grimsby

“I would say the fact knitwear is currently our bestselling category is a reflection on the weather. Vivienne Westwood knitwear (£195 to £355) and long-sleeved tops (£150 to £295) are leading the way, followed by really high-quality jeans to complement the look. Our bestsellers include clean and basic tailored Versace jeans (£140) and slim-fit True Religion jeans (£200). This was the first year that we took part in Black Friday by offering 25% off outerwear brands like Pretty Green, Replay, North Sails and Gant in store. We focused on outerwear, because the sales have been a bit slow.”

Sean Machin, manager of Christopher Scotney in Leicester

“At the moment, our customers are shopping for events in the run-up to Christmas. Dark classic colours are their favourites, especially when it comes to tailored Hugo Boss suits (£499), which are perfect for an evening out. Our current bestsellers are jackets from Stone Island (£450) and CP Company (£250). This autumn 15 we introduced Tramarossa Jeans (£185), which are selling really well. We’re planning to participate in Black Friday this year with 25% off selected items online.”

Ymc knitwear

YMC knitwear, autumn 15

Oscar Parrish, supervisor at David Copperfield, St Albans in Hertfordshire

“This autumn 15 our customers are loving YMC knitwear (£135) and Barena unstructured jackets (£359). Another top seller is the Stone Island basic crew-neck sweatshirt (£145) for a more relaxed look. John Smedley knitwear is new this season (£129). On December 4, we’ll be having an in-store event for local customers with 15% off all merchandise and then after Christmas we’ll have an online Sale.”

Vanessa Collins, owner of Collen & Clare in Southwold, Suffolk

“Our customers are already keen to start their Christmas shopping. Our store is well known for the gorgeous gift-wrapping and incredible atmosphere at this time of year. Our customers prefer bright coloured knitwear, like the Soaked in Luxury orange jumper in waffle cotton (£120). Circle of Gentlemen jackets (£450) and Oliver Spencer grandpa coats (£450) are very popular too. This will be the first time we participate in Black Friday, offering an online promotion of 14% off selected items.”
