Strong product breadth at the cheapest prices, though the quality is often a letdown.
Primark has a great offer that interprets trends while also providing simple best-sellers and basics. Drapers counts 20 styles of knitwear, from on-trend patterned Fair Isles to striped and colour-blocked jumpers. The key duffles and quilted coats channel the great outdoors theme while a pea coat comes in four colours. Chinos are offered in nine colours, and there are eight fits for jeans, including arc and skinny.
Window displays feature clear price tags to draw shoppers in but are never too in your face. The men’s floor feels surprisingly spacious and tidy, although some rails are overstocked. Wall displays clearly explain different fits, styles and washes for denim and chinos. The floor was full of staff, although not all were as knowledgeable about the shop layout or sizing. The changing rooms are a good size but are hidden behind the kidswear area.
No one can beat Primark on price and all the season’s key pieces are at their cheapest here, but that often means you get the quality you pay for. Intarsia and Fair Isle patterned knits start at £10 but aren’t the greatest quality, a duffle coat with fisherman-style rope toggles is only £30, and cotton pea coat macs are just £19 with wool options at a reasonable £35. Although both chinos and jeans in various styles start at just £10, you wouldn’t bet on them lasting too long.
