The product on offer is strong but is lacking in variety
This is an accomplished offer, with unique and sexy takes on autumn trends including grey velvet platform courts and a black faux-snakeskin and suede wedge. A claret heeled hiking boot also stands out. Grey laminated platforms and crêpe sole lace-ups are key. River Island also backs the fringed boot which was a hit last autumn - Drapers didn’t see many of these elsewhere. Retro gold and red patent stuck-on platforms give the offer a girly contrast against the tougher autumn trends.
River Island has knowledgeable footwear staff who can communicate with the stockroom via two-way radios, which has helped the retailer score high on customer service in the past. However, a number of sales assistants at the Brighton store were preoccupied with a difficult refund from one shopper, leaving the rest of the customers to their own devices. The footwear area itself lacks wow factor and is a tad messy. There are also not enough mirrors.
A platform loafer with clog studding is reasonable at £64.99, as are hiking-style boots for £39.99. Grey velvet platform courts are a steal at £54.99. Shearling-lined buckle ankle boots are too expensive at £125.
