Topshop, 178/180 Western Road

An impressive offer and exceptional grasp of what represents good value for money.

Looks 8

Grey wedge shoe boots are directional while demi cowboy boots with ridge detail are more commercial. A tea-stained miner boot is original and Drapers hasn’t seen this style anywhere else - a rarity in the young fashion footwear market. Evening styles include lace ankle-cuff courts,

while a pair of black suede knee-high boots stands out. Topshop could afford to have more casual autumn boot styles on offer given the level of knitwear in store.

Experience 7

The area wasn’t staffed and no assistance was offered despite it being a quiet day. The footwear area has its own shopfit and two leather armchairs inject a touch of luxury. The music is calming and at the perfect volume, and lighting is easy on the eye.

Value 8½

Topshop excels on value this season. The ankle boot styles are all £65, which is reasonable given the quality and fashion-forward design detail employed. At £85 wedge boots seem pricey, but black courts in suede with a hidden platform are a bargain at £62 as are patent platform peep-toes for £60. Standout black suede knee-high boots are good at £60 and canvas hi-tops are £25. Flat loafers are great value and quality at £55, and the tea-stained leather miner boot is excellent at £65.

Score 23½
