Quirky merchandising techniques and enticing prices for quality items make Uniqlo a hit.

Product 7

What stands out about Uniqlo’s product is the quality – the fit is great and the materials are always of a high standard. It’s mostly modern wardrobe staples and basics, but small updates give a trend-led twist. More than 20 plaid shirt options provide a colour combo for everyone, while elbow patches and contrast-fabric collars update blazers, jackets and jumpers. Outerwear is strong, with duffles, pea coats and waxed styles all noted, and the cashmere and merino knitwear is spot on.

Experience 8

A great window display features a lightweight padded jacket placed over fans which inflate then deflate the jacket. There is also a fine example of how to display denim, with shapes, washes and sizes laid out in an easy system. The wide colour options for knits are also displayed in a visually appealing rainbow system. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable.

Value 9

An offer celebrating the store opening means V-neck merino wool jumpers are £14.99, which is excellent value. Plaid shirts are also great at just £19.90, which beats most stores Drapers visited on both price and quality. Cords, chinos and denim all start at £29.90 and versions of the season’s key duffle coat and db pea coat are £89, which undercuts many competitors.
