Sainsbury’s said it had continued to grow its clothing market share in the fourth quarter as like-for-like sales at the supermarket rose by 6.2% for the 11 weeks to March 21.
Sainsbury’s said its non food sales had continued to grow strongly in the fourth quarter. Total sales for the fourth quarter rose 6.8% excluding fuel..
for the second half, like-for-like sales excluding fuel jumped 5.3%. Sainsburys said both transaction value and backet size had increased againt the previous year.
Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King said: “We expect the current economic environment to remain challenging but our focus on delivering universal appeal through great products at fair prices means we are well positioned to continue our good progress.”
