Sarah Burton recognised in Queen's birthday honours list

Sarah Burton, the creative director of Alexander McQueen has been awarded an OBE in Her Majesty’s birthday honours list for services to the British fashion industry.

The nod comes after Burton received widespread acclaim for her design for the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding gown in 2011. She also scooped Designer of the Year Award at the 2011 British Fashion Awards.

Jewellery and accessories designer Lara Bohinc is made an MBE for services to the British fashion industry.

Mulberry creative director Emma Hill, who has won several awards since joining the firm in 2008, was appointed CBE. The company, which supports British manufacturing, reported a 54% jump in profits last year and has announced plans to open a second UK factory in Somerset.

In total nearly 1,500 people across the UK were honored for their outstanding achievement and service to British society.
