Branded footwear retailer Schuh has launched a French version of its website today as part of its first steps into the European market.
The site, fr.schuh.eu, is a replica of the retailer’s UK site www.schuh.co.uk and is designed to give French customers exactly the same online experience.
A team of four French speaking customer service assistants have been appointed by Schuh to deal specifically with queries from French customers and the retailer has also secured a Paris phone number for customer enquiries.
Schuh will also provide a local address in France for returns so that customers are not deterred by expensive international charges.
Orders will be fulfilled at Schuh’s head office in Livingston, Scotland and from stores as per the UK site but the retailer has chosen to partner with the French post office, La Poste and will use their So Colissimo service for deliveries.
Initially delivery to French customers will be free for orders over €75 (£60.10) and a 10% student discount will also be offered.
Schuh felt France was an ideal testing ground for Europe after seeing strong sales from France via its European site www.schuh.eu.
The retailer has said the French website will act as a testing ground for other international sites going forward. In March Schuh’s head of ecommerce Sean McKee told Drapers that the retailer would also consider international local language sites in Germany, Scandinavia and the Netherlands.
Schuh won High Street Footwear Retailer of the Year at the recent Drapers’ Footwear and Accessories Awards.
