Silverfleet Capital acquires womenswear brand La Fée Maraboutée for €65m

European private equity backer Silverfleet Capital has acquired French womenswear brand La Fée Maraboutée for €65m (£52.8m).

The Lyon-based brand is sold via a network of around 1,700 wholesale stockists worldwide as well as through a network of 90 retail stores comprising 35 own stores and 55 franchise stores.

In this current financial year to the end of December 2012, the company will have generated sales of €46m, 80% of which will have come from its wholesale business and 20% from its retail arm.

Following the sale, Georges Spitzer, former chief executive of Givenchy and Du Pareil au Même, will join the supervisory board as chairman and he has also invested in the company.

“We are very impressed by the La Fée Maraboutée brand and collections which have an elegant, timeless appeal while also being both good quality and affordable which mean that the company has a strong and loyal customer base both in France and internationally,” said Maïré Deslandes, joint head of Silverfleet Capital’s Paris office who led the investment alongside her colleague, Alexandre Lefebvre.

Lefebvre added: “We are convinced that this management team supported by Georges Spitzer as Chairman can achieve further success worldwide.”

Silverfleet Capital is an active European mid-market private equity investor that owns UK branded footwear retailer Office as well as other fashion retail businesses in Europe including German catalogue retailer creatrade.
