Sir Stuart Rose to succeed Alan Giles as Fat Face chairman

Sir Stuart Rose is to become chairman of Fat Face, taking over from Alan Giles this summer.

Giles, who has been with the business for seven years, will leave in July and will be replaced by former Marks & Spencer chairman and chief executive Rose, who joins the Fat Face board in March.

Rose has held chief executive roles at Arcadia, Argos and Booker as well as at M&S. He is currently a non-executive director of Land Securities, chairman designate of Ocado, chairman of Blue Inc and a non-executive director of Woolworths Holdings Limited, a South African-based listed retail group.

“With the brand on firm foundations and a strong management team in place I feel that it is now time to hand over to a new chairman,” said Giles. “I am confident that Stuart, working with [chief executive] Anthony Thompson, will be a powerful driver of yet further success for Fat Face.”

Thompson praised Giles for helping to “steer us in building a stronger business for better times”, thanking him for “his significant contribution” over the seven-year tenure.

“I now look forward to welcoming Stuart and working with him,” Thompson added. “His skills and experience will be invaluable as Fat Face enters a new phase of growth.”

Fat Face recorded sales of £85.7m. for the 26 weeks to 1 December, with a 65% increase in e-commerce sales during the five-week Christmas period to 5 January.
