Sales at John Lewis rose 6.6% for the week to March 8 as glorious weather drove footfall in-store.
Total sales for the week reached £72.76m, which the retailer dubbed a “fantastic result” given the tough comparison because of the earlier fall of Mother’s Day last year.
Fashion sales were up 3.5% driven by women’s accessories, up 10.5% on the year, and children’s footwear up 14.6%.
Online sales were up 37% for the week, bolstered by womenswear which was up 60% as change in weather encouraged customers to think about their spring wardrobe.
Meg Lustman, buying director, fashion at John Lewis, said: “Overall a strong performance, with it all to play for and Mother’s Day at the end of the month. Stock availability is good, and with the warm weekend ahead everything is in place for another great week.”
