Spring weather drives fashion sales at John Lewis

The first sign of spring helped boost fashion at John Lewis last week, with sales up 7.6% in the division.

Kidswear performed well in the final week of the Easter school holidays, while fashion accessories also had a strong week.

Overall sales were up 6.9% in the week to April 13, compared to the same week the prior year, while online sales increased 5%.

John Lewis’ flagship Oxford Street store was the best performing store over the week with sales up by 18.5%.

Managing director Andy Street said: “Week 11 proved a solid one to conclude a strong set of Easter comparisons.Inevitably therefore, the headline sales growth has slowed just a little from the cracking pace we set at the beginning of the year.”
