The Berlin shows, Spring 13

Some of the denim big boys were absent from this season’s Bread & Butter, and things started quietly on the first day.

But by day two, it was teeming with buyers from John Lewis, Asos, Zalando and indies such as Diffusion and Weavers Door scouring the stands for spring 13’s hottest tickets. Standout trends included fluorescents, prints and contrasting fabrics. Buyers from TK Maxx were spotted at the more directional Capsule, though exhibitors told Drapers they hadn’t seen many UK buyers. Men’s and women’s trade show Premium was perhaps the largest and certainly the busiest (of the other trade shows), offering a wide selection, from denim brands J Brand, Paige, Current/Elliott and Mother to more commercial contemporary womenswear lines. Seek hosted brands including Oliver Spencer, Vanishing Elephant and Velour, split across three floors, and the feedback was that attendance had been good. Bright, meanwhile, showcased the latest in streetwear, surf and sneaker brands.
