The 10th anniversary edition of the London trade show again proved a happy hunting ground for young fashion buyers seeking out fresh talent and emerging brands.

Gentle Fawn

Canadian womenswear brand Gentle Fawn returned to Margin for autumn 12 after a nine-year absence. Its collection, which comprises four drops per season, plays with prints and introduces a more relaxed silhouette. Key looks include boxy, Gallic-inspired Breton viscose jersey tops with chiffon stripes, along with Aztec, black lace and flocking.

Menswear brand Humdrum debuted a premium line of T-shirts and vests to sit alongside its Classic line, in a bid to introduce a tiered pricing structure. Both ranges feature the vintage American mascot and milkshake prints for which Humdrum is known, but the premium range has a slimmer silhouette and a finer tri-blend jersey.

British heritage is a key theme in menswear brand Seventyseven’s range, reflecting the trend in streetwear towards a more sophisticated aesthetic. This season the brand’s flannel shirts and retro-print T-shirts sit side-by-side with varsity jackets, a Made in Britain wax cotton jacket and quilted military-style coats.

Simple and sophisticated designs take centre-stage at womenswear brand Silas, which is returning to the UK after a six-year absence. The autumn 12 collection includes a coffee-coloured suede jacket with sheepskin lining, an oversized knit with an intarsia swan print, a structured wool beige coat with pleating detail in the back and tulle skirts with an imitation leather lining.

Slow dance

Launched two years ago by Japanese designer Ryoko Nagano, womenswear brand Slow Dance takes its inspiration from lingerie, combining feminine detailing with a muted palette of pink, grey and beige. The autumn 12 offer includes an orange silk shift dress with a hand-drawn print, and a cotton trench coat with a raccoon fur collar.

To be Frank

Inspired by a combination of a working man from Yorkshire and a London businessman, menswear brand To Be Frank teams hard-wearing fabrics with smart tailoring.

The collection includes a heavy wool jacket with coat tails and shirts with detachable collars in different colour options. Each piece comes with a USB drive that details the garment’s journey.
