The look:
Ultra sleek and streamlined, Valentino’s presentation was the showcase for a number of fabric manipulations such as pleating, tiering, feather trim and heavy beadwork. Gemstones tones of emerald, ruby, amethyst and coral were used predominately in heavyweight silk satins and beading came in concentrated bursts at the collar, cuff or hem, and swirling rosettes were used singly at the neck or hemline.

Key pieces:
A backless column dress with ruffles to the back standing proud like angel wings and a one-shouldered, irregularly-tiered mauve satin gown were masterful in their simplicity. A tobacco silk sheath with a high waistline and full length slashed sleeves was a dramatic fusion of medieval and oriental styling.
