Vente-privee, the French-owned private sales website, saw sales rise 46% to £545 million in 2008 compared to the previous year.
Vente-privee, which organises private sales for its members of last season designer labels at a discount, organised 1,250 sales in 2008, up 67% on 2007, for seven million registered users, up 52% on the previous year.
Vente-privee chief executive Jacques-Antoine Granjon said: “Our positive 2008 results and our growth prospects for 2009 are the consequence of investments made in recruitment, finance and technology, and our policy of deployment throughout the European market. UK consumers are one of the world’s most savvy when it comes to online shopping, so we are confident we can achieve our projected growth for 2009 and will be taking steps, like investing in a UK sales office, to ensure we continue to expand in the UK.”
The company is budgeting for sales of £663m this year, excluding taxes, which is an increase of 22%. It has also set an objective of 1,800 event sales – of which 180 will take place via its UK website – with a portfolio of 850 different brands.
