The number of international buyers that attended kidswear trade show Pitti Bimbo in Florence last week fell to 8,600 from 10,084 in January 2008.
UK buyer attendance at Pitti Bimbo also fell to 133 visitors last week. Attendance from Italian retailers was also down.
Raffaello Napoleone, chief executive of Pitti Bimbo show organiser Pitti Immagine, said: “The decision to move up the start of Pitti Bimbo by one day certainly penalised the smaller Italian stores - the ones accustomed to coming to Florence on Sunday and the ones which, perhaps, decided to stay open and take advantage of the end-of-season sales. But we are convinced that holding the fair from Thursday to Saturday is more functional and necessary for the exhibitors, and it makes the event more profession-oriented.”
The number of buyers from Brazil doubled, those from the Arab Emirates increased by 13% and buyers from Poland were up 33%.
