Warm weather drives fashion sales at John Lewis

Fashion sales increased 10.7% at John Lewis last week as the warm weather drove strong sales in footwear and kidswear.

In the week to May 26 kidswear sales rose 33.1% while sales of footwear increased 59% compared to the same week the previous year. Womenswear was also a strong performer, driven by the warm weather and price matching.

Overall sales at the department store group increased 9.3% as the warm weather kept customers away from stores in the latter part of the week.

Online sales remained strong up by 46% while, in comparison, store sales increased by just 0.7%.

“This week with the weather returning to more seasonal normality we still have all to play for with some extremely compelling seasonal promotions and, of course, the Jubilee weekend,” said David Barford director of selling operations for region B at John Lewis.
