Weird Fish makes two new appointments

Lifestyle brand Weird Fish has appointed former White Stuff designer Bethany Phillips as its head of design.

Phillips, who was previously head of design at White Stuff, has also held design roles at lifestyle brand Saltwater and has developed collections for high street retailers including Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and Next.

Weird Fish has also appointed former New Look head of creative marketing services, Matthew Janes, to the role of head of brand communications.

Janes has also worked for Supergroup where he was head of marketing and press for five years.

Both Janes and Phillips have already started with the brand and the appointments come as Weird Fish looks to significantly increase its ranges, particularly in womenswear.

“It is now the right time for us to bring in Matthew, a talented and creative marketeer with experience of growing ambitious brands, while Bethany’s appointment is critical to maintaining our product focus and developing a design-led culture,” said managing director John Stockton.

“She will also help further increase our womenswear ranges, which we expect to represent 50% of sales next year.”

Weird Fish is wholesaled in around 800 outlets in the UK and was founded in Cheltenham in 1993.

In 2010 managing director John Stockton led a management buyout backed by private equity firm Piper.
