Winter warmers drive John Lewis sales

John Lewis sales grew 6% to £52.5m in the week to February 4 as shoppers stocked up on winter warmers in the cold weather.

Fashion was up 8.2% on last year, driven by sales of winter warmers and the introduction of new spring ranges.

Men’s accessories was the best performing category in fashion, with sales rising 38%. Fashion accessories were up 27.4% with sales of women’s outerwear rising 20.4%.

The department store’s online business grew 28.5%, with beauty rising up 56%.

Three branches notched up double digit growth. Croydon sales rose 19.1%, followed by Poole at 17.4% and Southampton at 13.1%.
